श्रीऔर्वविश्वक्सेनाष्टकम्
Vishwaksena is described as the eternal, supreme essence and the commander of the divine army in this Ashtakam. You may think of him as the Bhairava of the Vaishnava pantheon. As he is the chief of army of Narayana, the guardian and his close aid. The purpose of this hymn is to offer devotion and seek his blessings for protection and the removal of obstacles.
भजेऽहमौर्वज्वलितप्रभावं
अनन्तमूलं पुरुषोत्तमांशम् ।
सुदर्शनार्चिर्विततोग्रतेजं
विश्वस्य सेनाधिपतिं नमामि ॥१॥
"I bow to the blazing effulgence of the supreme, rootless, and ultimate Purushottama (Supreme Being). I salute Vishwaksena, the bright, radiant commander of the universe."
नमामि तं विश्वविधेर्विधानं
नमामि तं धर्मपथैकगोप्तारम् ।
नमामि तं विघ्नगणप्रहर्तारं
विश्वस्य सेनाधिपतिं नमामि ॥२॥
"I bow to Him, the divine architect of the universe, the sole guardian of dharma, the destroyer of obstacles, and the lord of the cosmic army."
यदाज्ञया भान्ति दिवाकराद्या
यदाज्ञया वान्ति समीरवेगाः ।
यदाज्ञया तिष्ठति विश्वचक्रं
विश्वस्य सेनाधिपतिं नमामि ॥३॥
"By His command, the sun and dawn shine, the winds blow swiftly, and the entire universe remains in balance. I bow to Vishwaksena, the lord of the cosmic army."
कालाग्निरुद्रप्रभवाद्भयानां
भयं य एवाद्य निरस्य धत्ते ।
अधर्मसेनाक्षयवह्निरूपं
विश्वस्य सेनाधिपतिं नमामि ॥4॥
"He, the fiery blazing force of time and Rudra, dispels fears in all beings. I bow to Vishwaksena, the eternal destroyer of unrighteousness."
सङ्कर्षणस्योदरनिर्गताग्निं
शेषस्य गुह्यं परमार्थरूपम् ।
और्वं महातेज उदारमीड्यं
विश्वस्य सेनाधिपतिं नमामि ॥५॥
"From Sankarshana’s abdomen, the divine fire emerges, representing the supreme truth of Shesha. I bow to Vishwaksena, the great luminous and magnanimous commander of the universe."
न यत्र दैत्या न च दुष्टभावा
न यत्र मोहः प्रभवेत्कदाचित् ।
यदीक्षणात्काल इवापि भीतः
विश्वस्य सेनाधिपतिं नमामि ॥
"Where neither demons nor evil tendencies nor delusion ever arise; At whose glance even Time becomes afraid—I bow to the Commander of the Universe."
भक्तार्तिहन्त्रीं करुणाप्रवाहं
वज्रादपि स्थैर्यमनन्तशक्तिम् ।
शिशोः पितेवाश्रितवत्सलं तं
विश्वस्य सेनाधिपतिं नमामि ॥७॥
"He who is the remover of devotees’ sufferings, with endless strength like a diamond and compassion like a father to the divine child— I bow to Vishwaksena, the lord of the universe."
न सेनापतिं केवलमद्भुतं तं
न द्वारपालं न च देवयोद्धारम् ।
ऋतस्य जीवत्परमं स्वरूपं
विश्वस्य सेनाधिपतिं नमामि ॥८॥
"He is not merely the commander, nor a wonderful gatekeeper, nor a divine warrior—He is the ultimate reality and the essence of life. I bow to Vishwaksena, the lord of the universe."
फलश्रुतिः
और्वविश्वक्सेनमिदं पवित्रं
यो भक्तिभावेन पठेन्नरः स्यात् ।
विघ्नाः क्षयं यान्ति भयाणि नश्यन्ति
धर्मे धृतिं विष्णुपदे च लभेत् ॥
"Whoever reads this sacred Vishwaksena hymn with devotion attains purity. Obstacles are destroyed, fears vanish, and one attains steadfastness in dharma and devotion to Vishnu."
